  • Neal Long, Lyric Opera Director of Education and Community Engagement, was in residence at Shawnee Mission Northwest High School three days a week and led 15 students through an exploratory process of unlocking opera’s potential. In response to a Facebook post seeking a theater professional to teach 7th hour Repertory Theater class, Lyric Opera collaborated with Associate Principal Britton Haney to design a custom residency experience for students. The possibilities are endless! See an example of a recent partnership below: Megan Renae Parker, Lyric Coloratura Soprano and cross-over artist graces operatic, musical theatre and concert stages alike. Residency courses can be crafted according to school needs, accommodate varying timeframes ranging from a few days to several months, and provide instruction in areas ranging from vocal performance to technical theater. Additionally she performed the role of Bradamante in Alcina with Longy School of Music.Lyric Opera of Kansas City is proud to offer customized residency courses to high schools across the Kansas City area. Roles for the 2020-2021 season include a concert performance of Amastre in Xerxes with New York Opera Forum, role preparation of Olga in Eugene Onegin with the renowned Russian Opera Workshop and role preparation of Azucena in Il Trovatore with New York Dramatic Voices. Her performance of Sorceress in Dido and Aeneas with Longy School of Music was unfortunately cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Her most recent engagements include a concert performance as Meg Page in Falstaff with New York Opera Forum. She has also performed regionally in the Seattle, WA area with Lyric Opera Northwest and Puget Sound Concert Opera as Giovanna ( Rigoletto), Flora ( La Traviata), and Mamma Lucia ( Cavalleria Rusticana). Previous roles have included Siegrune in Die Walküre with Manhattan Opera Studio, Ruth in Dark Sisters by Muhly with Miami Music Festival, and La Zia Principessa in Suor Angelica with Operafestival di Roma. Her work as a Speech-Language Pathologist has given her an intimate knowledge of the voice and provided a source of inspiration for her to establish her own voice while working on providing a voice for her students She has sung internationally in Italy, France and Germany performing roles from Mozart to Wagner, and has a sizeable instrument with the flexibility to sing Handel and Rossini. Brittany Walker is a Mezzo-Soprano and a Speech-Language Pathologist who is currently based in the Boston area.
